A friend of mine asked me while talking about unusual and unique money making ideas.

So, I set out to do some research to find out if one can actually make money listing to music and rating tracks.
If you are starting to get tired with the run-of-the-mill types of online money making websites, then you are going to like what I have found.
Note: If you are a musician yourself and looking for a few ways to earn money, check out this post where I list 7 money making ideas for musicians.
In my research trying to find ways you could actually be paid for listening and reviewing music, I have found 3 sites that will pay you to do just that.
Generally, they allow aspiring musicians to showcase their talent, and they want to solicit your invaluable feedback on them. You basically listen to music and tell them what you think about it.
1. HitPredictor
Here, every song review will be rewarded with points, which you can later exchange for CDs, headphones, etc…
If that does not appeal to you, HitPredictor also allow you to use your points in exchange for their weekly raffle entries. At the time of writing, there is a raffle going on for an Amazon.com $100 gift card.
2. SliceThePie.com
This is yet another music reviewing website. They cater especially to unsigned singers and your feedback are required to hopefully provide direction on what their best song is for A&R opportunities and Radio placement.
According to Slicethepie website, they have gathered some 10 million reviews so far, and they further claim that over $1 million has been disbursed to their music reviewers!
The key factor at play here is a ranking system, which is determined by how well written individual review is. To work up the rank, you are expected to post well-written reviews with fairly elaborated details. So, the more comprehensive your reviews are, the more money you stand to make.
Back to the money part, payout per song review ranges from $0.02 to $0.20. As you get to the $10 level, you can request cash out via PayPal.
3. MusicXRay.com
You can find a good mix of genres over at MusicXRay.com, so there is little chance you have to hear out music that does not fancy you.
Upon registration, you will be asked what sorts of music work for you, i.e. those you have no qualm spending them to listen to and provide a review.

There is really a rich choice here, from classical music, to country, to rap music, etc… You are bound to find something that strikes a cord with you.
Ultimately, you can make as much as $1 with every rating you provide to MusicXRay. Having said that, you got to first work through their earnings tier.
As you first get started, the compensation is at a lowly $0.05 cents per song. But with more ratings done on more songs, you will gradually climb up the earnings tier to finally hit that maximum $1 payout.
It is up to you how many songs you like to listen to. As your earning hits $20, you can put in a request for payment.
Reality Check!
It is important to put the perspective right here! While pro music reviewers (those employed by magazines, Radio and TV shows) can make a decent earning by listening and rating music, the online activities showcased here would actually do little to sustain your life.
Nevertheless, I still think it is not a bad way to make additional pocket money if you can spare some time. It is a real bonus to true music fans, getting paid while engaging in something you truly enjoy!
